This or That: The Arts Edition

1. Poetry or prose? Poetry

2. Funky modern art or the older, "classic" variety?
While I
can appreciate the classics, modern art speaks to me more.

3. Sculptures or paintings?
Paintings.

4. Theatre: exuberant musical or serious drama?
Hands down, I prefer
plays over musicals.

5. Ballet or modern dance?
Modern dance. There is more chance
for nudity. *wink*

6. Movies: major studio or indie?
Indie baby, indie.

7. Authors: Shakespeare or Dr. Seuss?
Ugh....can't there be a third
option? Shakespeare I suppose.

8. TV: PBS or A&E?
I refuse to pay for cable so it's PBS.

9. Music: Beethoven or Beatles?
After you've studied Beethoven ad
nauseam, the Beatles are a welcome change.

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You are a contributing member of
your favorite art museum, and visit on a regular basis. They announce a new,
temporary special exhibit by an artist surrounded by controversy...this person's
work and/or political views offend you. Do you stop supporting the museum, or
just stay away during the time the exhibit is there?
Hmmm...the only
people who actually offend are the terminally stupid, so I would probably
go to the exhibit and see what all the hubbub is all about and make my finally
decision and support my happy little museum.

Currently

Reading

Budget Living, a
magazine for stylish tightwads, like myself.

Falling In
Love With A Poor Man
by Brad
Graham
.

Listening

Rockwell Church - Antidote.
I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed with this effort. It's not as
strong of an album as Superego,
however there are some nice moments in it.

Ani DiFranco - Evolve.
The jury is still out on this one. I really like about half of the
songs. I'm still undecided on the other half.

Thinking

With a name like Dick Smothers, it
was inevitable
.

Wondering

How much longer is Evil
Francie
going to use Will as her butt-monkey and when are we going to
get to see a Sydney/Evil Francie smackdown?

Resolution Updates

When
I made this
long list of resolutions
, I wondered if I was being unrealistic. Some
days I think I was. Others I think everything is on track.

Host a dinner party. The Roommate and I had a potluck dinner on Valentine's Day for our single
friends. It was a nice, casual and relaxed evening and I think everyone
had a nice time.

I
forgot
(again) what a pain planning parties were. It was still a lot
of fun though.

Do 30 minutes of cardio 3-4
days a week.
This is an ongoing effort.
I have a calendar in my bathroom and I put a foil star on each day I go to the
gym. My attendance has been visibly irregular.

I think part of the problem is I am very routine
oriented and I haven't found a way to fit this into a routine. Things come
up and I can't go on days I plan and then it throws me out of whack.

Get rid of clutter. I would say this
is half accomplished. Most of my clutter is in a series of boxes stacked
on a book shelf in my room. I just need to sort through it all and throw
out what I don't need and find a home for what I do.

Cook more. I started cooking
more so I would have leftovers to take to work. We have a cafeteria at
work but it is horribly overpriced and really gross most of the time. I
really like simple throw-everything-in-a-pot-and-let-it-simmer type recipes so
I've been cooking a lot of soups.

Eat
more fruits and vegetables. Eat
less sugar.
I am really,

really
trying. Cooking myself and bringing my lunch to work helps, but
I
still think salad is disgusting
and am trying to work out my residual
feelings about other vegetables. Baby steps.

Start therapy. Um...let's not
talk about this one yet.

Priorities People!

New York Pride - June 2002
So I'm in this GLBT employee group at work and we are planning our company's
participation in our local Pride event. Yesterday I get an email asking me
to come to a meeting on this Friday after work for a planning session. This kind of surprised me for a couple reasons.

One, we have our regularly scheduled meeting the very next day. I realize
Pride is in six weeks, (Phoenix has it way earlier than the rest of the nation
because June is too unbearable to have anything outdoors during the day. Just image all the drag queens with their make up melting and the leather
daddies sweating in their chaps. Not a pretty picture.) but what are
we going to get done the night before that we can't get done the very next day?

Two, Friday night Margaret Cho is
performing at the Dodge Theater. What kind of gay employee group is!? I mean, C'mon! What respectable
homo or dyke doesn't know this!? Geez!
