If the Shoe Fits

Brian: ugh

Kristin: I SOOOO agree. In fact, I agree so much, I'm trying to get out of here.
I can't do it anymore today

Brian: walk on girlfriend

Kristin: I have chocolate Oreos at home and they are calling my name.

Brian: do they speak with one collective voice or individually?

Kristin: It's like the alien toys in Toy Story. Both individually and as one.

Brian: : LOL. well....enjoy your stress binge

Kristin: Well, mostly I just want to be at home AND the final LA/Detroit WNBA game is on tonight.
Game 3 of 3

Brian: i assume that is important for some reason so know i am tilting my head and nodding knowingly

Kristin: THE finals. To be the national champions for 2003 kind of game.

Brian: okay...i believe you. (geez.)

Kristin: Sigh... I know you aren't into sports, not like I'm a total sports nut or anything, but let's just say, it's the big game. Total David and Goliath. LA=Goliath. They've won 3 times in a row. Detroit=David. Last year they had the worst record ever in the WNBA. This year, they've had the best record ever in the WNBA. All that's left is the title.

Brian: i said i believed you.

Kristin: I know dear. Just trying to give you a feel for lesbian current events.

Brian: ok....let's get something straight. i may like, no...love my lesbian sisters and have a huge appreciation for their culture, but i have to retain some gay male qualities or else they might come after me and revoke my membership.

Kristin: you'd have to try to USE the membership card before they could revoke it

Brian: BITCH!

Kristin: Kisses!

Browsing

Stupid Creatures.
Worse than sock monkeys and therefore better.

Glarkware
. I can not wait to order some of these t-shirts.

The Ellen Degeneres Show
. I haven't seen the show yet, but I love the
way she draws attention to getting free tickets.

Watching

American Splendor.
This movie is about Harvey Pekar, the star of comic books with the same title
about his life as a file clerk in Cleveland. Pekar gained a lot of
national attention in the Eighties due in part to frequent appearances on Late
Night with David Letterman. The movie weaves the real life Harvey with the
actor's portrayal (a career high performance for Paul Giamatti) and animated
versions of the comic book Harvey. Sound confusing? It's not
really. It's a very original film with an unusual composition that is
completely mesmerizing, very funny and despite real life Harvey's warning that
if you are "looking for some kind of fantasy figure to save the day, you
got the wrong movie," it's still pretty heartwarming at the end.

Reading

Natural Health and Organic
Style
. I think I'm turning into a granola head. Someone offered
me a candy bar yesterday and I scrunched up my face and said no as if they had
just offered me a plate of raw octopus with a side of steamed bile. The
more I read out what additives and chemicals do to our bodies, the less I want
sugar, processed food (Organic Style is more of a chick magazine
than Natural Health, but I suppose I won't hold that against them.)

Dry
by Augusten Burroughs. I am
very impressed by this man's writing. It's very honest and brutally honest
and of course, brilliantly hilarious. When I finished the book, his story
stayed with me for several days. I read somewhere he said he wants to
crank out a book every year until people get sick of him. I don't think
that will be anytime soon.

Please
Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk
. Lou Reed. Iggy
Pop. Nico. Patti Smith. They are all here in all their frank
nihilistic glory. What isn't here is a consistent narrative to add
cohesion to the text. Its absence made it hard for me to keep track of
what I was reading and I ended up just skipping around a lot.

Loving

rock! Buy some.

Friendship

I think some friendships are like David E. Kelley shows. When they
premiere you are completely smitten and get caught up in the newness and
excitement of it all. You're intoxicated by the freshness of something so original,
bold and daring. You have an immediate connection that feels everlasting.

After a few seasons, things start to change. There is a mix up in the
cast. Plotlines get recycled. Once beloved characters start doing
things that seem, well...out of character. Their actions don't feel true
and authentic. It's no longer the show it once was and no matter how many
flashback episodes are aired, it never will be again.

Eventually, you lose interest and start watching something else. Before
you know it, the show is cancelled and you didn't even have any interest in
watching the finale or you just missed it altogether.

Last year, two of my friendships like this ended. These were people I
loved and cared for deeply and in many ways still do and always will. Both
ended without a word spoken about what was going on.

For a long time I blamed myself. For an even longer time I blamed the
other. It took me a while to realize none of us were to blame. It
was what it was and when its time was up, there was nothing anyone could have
said or done to change what was inevitable.

After they were over, it was very painful and troubling. I was caught up
in the notion that all friendships last forever. That is simply not the
case. Some people you meet, you will have in your life always.
Others have time limits. Maybe a year. Maybe two. Maybe
ten. Some will fade away slowly and some will be ripped away.

Some may say this is an extremely cynical view of friendships. I
disagree. I think is purely an honest one. It doesn't make those
short term friendships any less important or significant. If anything it
should reaffirm that we should relish every moment we have with the people we
love because we may not have any moments again tomorrow. While friendships
may end and time passes, you will always have the reruns of memories of halcyon
days to watch over and over.
