iMix
So this lovely fellow, Patrick, has these monthly "submit a quote contests" on his blog. I entered the last one and won. He sent me an iTunes gift certificate for a prize. How cool is he? (Thank you Patrick!)
Here's what I got:
- It Looks Like Love - Josh Rouse
- Hanging On The Telephone - Blondie
- Gimme - Jill Scott
- Collarbone - Fujiya & Miyagi
- Tyrone - Erykah Badu
- Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain & Tennille
- Free Man In Paris - Sufjan Stevens
- Bad Reputation - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
- Mona Lisa - Grant-Lee Phillips
- You Had Time - Ani DiFranco
If you like these, you can purchase the iMix on iTunes.
After the jump, read why I like these songs.
It Looks Like Love - Josh Rouse
I've dug Josh Rouse for years, but somehow missed this song. After watching this video, I knew I needed to download it.
The Chair Dance from Dan Masquelier on Vimeo
Hanging On The Telephone - Blondie
My friend Deek has a Deborah Harry story. Once when he was living in New York, he was at some club. He turned to his side and there was Deborah Harry standing next to him. He said to her, "You're Deborah Harry." She looked at him, put her finger to her lips and said, "Shhhhh."
She. Effin'. Rocks.
Gimme - Jill Scott
Years ago, I used to frequent a bar that showed music videos. Whenever Gimme was on, I was completely transfixed with Jill and her nurse drag. She's good medicine.
Collarbone - Fujiya & Miyagi
Someone suggested I check these guys out. I kinda dig this song.
Tyrone - Erykah Badu
"I'm gettin' tired of your shit. You don't never buy my nothing." Need I say more?
Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain & Tennille
Free Man In Paris - Sufjan Stevens
Sufjan singing Joni. Blows my mind.
Bad Reputation - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
When I hear this, it makes me miss Freaks & Geeks.
Mona Lisa - Grant-Lee Phillips
Sublime.
You Had Time - Ani DiFranco
One of the best breakup songs ever written.

Oh my god, what a great song list! I love Tyrone..."but you can't use my phone..."
So awesome. However, if you don't have it, you have to buy one more song...it's called Hotel Song, by Regina Spektor. The entire cd is awesome, but that song is great!
Thanks for playing Quote of the Month! Hope you'll keep reading!

Sublime. That's a kyle-ism for describing music.

I miss Freaks 'n Geeks too! I always wondered what happened after Lindsay got back from touring with the Dead.

Now I'm going to be singing Love Will Keep Us Together for a week!
I love that little video. I love that weird stare everyone gives themselves when they make videos on their computer. Cute!
