Old School

Old School

Who needs a Wii when you have an Atari joystick game that cost $19.99?

For the record, he kicked my ass.

Cookies Are the Best Medicine

I woke up yesterday morning unable to move. When I get body aches, I get body aches. Bleah. I seem to be coming down with a summer cold. Double bleah. I left work a tad early and took a sweaty nap when I got home. Triple bleah.

I feel a lot better this morning, but am still taking it easy. Heavy doses of cookies and season two of How I Met Your Mother on DVD have been administered. And if those don't work, I have prescription of Doritos I can try.

The suckiest part is that I've missed the gym for two days now. I know right? Your jaw is like, totally on the floor that I'm actually GOING to the gym. And going to the gym on a REGULAR basis.

Trust me. I'm just as freaked out by it as you are. I'm going so much that it's to the point that the staff now knows me (and not just because of what happened when I first joined) and says things like, "See you tomorrow."

See. You. Tomorrow.

Srsly.

Now MY jaw is on the floor.

Hopefully, I'll feel a-okay to go tomorrow. I have some cookies to burn off.

In other news: Mike got his package.

For Brianne

Brianne is one of the front desk receptionists at my previous workplace. (Hi Brianne!) She sent me an email last week telling me a package with a canvas bag arrived for me and did I want her to forward it to me. I said yes. Then she said, "I better see a blog about how environmentally conscious you're being by bringing your new bag to the grocery store."

Fair enough. Here is the bag just before I took it to the grocery store.

Before she gets in a huff, I should mention Stephanie is the other front desk receptionist. (Hi Stephanie!) Her hand can be seen here holding her great creation, The Pot Stirrer of the Day Award.

I miss seeing those two every day.

And speaking of mail...

To be continued.

Heat + My Brain = Blah Blah Blah Post

Damn you Homer for singing that I Kissed a Girl song by Katy Perry to me OVER and OVER! Curiosity got the better of me so I checked out the video and I've watched it a few hundred times. Grr.
Bastard.

It's that time of the year when all I want to do is stay inside with the A/C on full blast, turn the fan directly on me and snuggle with a bag of ice while watching Gilmore Girls over and over.

(Hey. Did you know that Hiro dude from Heroes was on Gilmore Girls during season two when Lorelia & Rory took a road trip to Harvard?)

Actually, this summer hasn't been that bad. (I will probably regret uttering that statement.) It's only been the last couple of weeks that the heat started bothering me and the oh so fun headaches began. The other evening, I walked down the street to the postbox and it was downright pleasant out.

In the spirit of this rambling stream of consciousness, I offer this screen shot from Facebook.

Sunburnt Status

Two sunburnt statuses from non-connected friends. Weird, right? My guess is Homer's skin is shedding as punishment for getting that damn song stuck in my head!

Speaking of Facebook, I invite you to become a fan of my blog. I'm all about the shameless self-promotion.

And with that, I leave you with the original catchy wannabe lesbian song.

12 of 12 - The Yawn Edition

A tip of the hat to Mike Lawson for reminding me today was the 12th.

I planned to do absolutely nothing today and I pretty much stuck to that plan. Prepare yourself for the MOST BORING 12 of 12 in the history of 12 of 12.

13:05

13:05

My car window is fixed however the replacement window is not tinted like the others, therefore my car is so ghetto looking. I'm okay with that.

13:11

13:11

Julie was in the neighborhood today getting her hair cut & colored so she stopped by for lunch at Pei Wei.

13:18

13:18

You can't see her hair very well in the photo, but trust me, it's lovely. Julie always has great hair.

13:20

13:20

Don't you hate when they bring your appetizers at the same time as your entree?

13:20

13:20

Yeah, me too.

13:48

13:48

Go ahead and add "in bed" to it. You know you wanna.

I'm still waiting for the miracle.

14:55

14:55

Paste Magazine came in the mail today. I'm listening to the sampler CD now. It's pretty rocking. I hope my neighbors don't mind.

15:46

15:46

Nap time!

17:55

17:55

I only slept for thirty minutes but I pretty much just laid around in bed for a while. Elliott eventually came in and was all, "Hey man. You gonna stay in bed all day? Slacker."

Still waiting for that miracle.

18:21

18:21

See! See! I told you this was the most boring 12 of 12 ever!

Chit-chatting on the phone.

No, that wasn't the miracle.

19:20

19:20

A quick trip for a few groceries. They were out of the hummus I like. I might have to break down and actually make some myself.

19:48

19:48

I just stuck my camera out of the car window to take this picture.

I love the monsoony evening sky this time of year in Phoenix.

What's The Point?

I've noticed over the last few years, that when a prominent political figure from the right dies, many gay bloggers start with their choruses of Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead. Whether the deceased be anti-gay, racist, pro-guns, or whatever, post after post of virtual cabbage-patching fills my feed reader celebrating their deaths.

Honestly, it makes me very sad.

I get why people do it. I get being fed up and angry with the state of our world. I hate the ridiculousness of anti-gay vitriol that seems to fuel our political climate while more pressing issue are pushed aside and ignored. Hey, I'm fed up too. I think everyone would be better off if they just minded their own fucking business.

But what's the point of dancing on someone's grave? What does it do other than prove that we can be just as equally hateful and spiteful as those who have been hateful and spiteful to us?

Like I said, it makes me sad. For us.

Tall Cool One

I hope you are having a happy fourth, however you are spending it. Here's a little clue how I'm spending mine.

Tall Cool One

My Benevolent Blogger donation for this pay period is to donate to Matt's marathon fund.

Remember, if you make a donation of at least $40, you can get your very own hand-signed set of postcards from Secret Simon/Alden.

Also, more and more people are joining Mike Lawson's Benevolent Blogger Project. Visit Mike to learn more about the project and how you can get involved.

Run, Matt, Run!

One night during last summer's hibernation, I was laying on my bed staring at the ceiling, completely bored out of my mind. It was too effin' hot to do anything outside, I was broke, and there was nothing on TV or the DVR. The house was clean (shocking) and I had already reached the end of the internet.

Then, I had an idea. "Hey! Listen to some podcasts!"

Some how, podcasting had always alluded me. So I went to Alden's site and started subscribing to the podcasts listed in the side bar. The Daily Purge. Wanda Wisdom. Fox and the City. All good stuff.

Then I listened to Okay So Radio.

My first introduction to Matt Blender was this episode. Matt was preparing to run the Chicago Marathon and had asked his family to donate to the charity he was raising money for. One of his relatives wrote him a nasty, homophobic letter back telling him why he wouldn't support his fundraising.

That podcast kind of broke my heart a little. You could hear the anger and disappointment in Matt's voice. You could also hear his determination to rise above it and press on with the marathon and raising money. I've been listening Okay So Radio ever since.

Well, Matt's at it again this year. Once again, he'll be running the Chicago Marathon via the National AIDS Marathon Training Program, which means he's raising money to participate.

Here's where you come in, gentle readers.

If you can, please sponsor Matt. The money goes to a great cause, which should be rewarding enough, however this time you can also get something in return.

If you donate a minimum of $40 by July 15, you can receive a limited edition postcard set of sketches drawn by none other than Alden/Secret Simon.

If you've never seem Alden's artwork, you can check some out here. Alden's an amazing artist and is creating this set just for Matt's run.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Make a donation of at least $40 or more to Matt's marathon donation page.
  2. Send an email with your name, the amount you donated and your shipping address (so that they know you want a set) to okaysoradio@gmail.com.
  3. A few weeks after July 15, you should get your very own set of hand signed, number postcards.

Easy peasy! Any amount helps. I know both Matt and Alden would really appreciate it, as would I.

Reader Poll

I admit it. I kind of phoned it in with this month's banner. I blame the summer heat for draining my creative energy.

And now to continue phoning it in...

I haven't done a reader poll for a while, so if you'd be so kind to fill out this form in the comments, I'd love to know who's reading the site lately.
