Run, Matt, Run!

One night during last summer's hibernation, I was laying on my bed staring at the ceiling, completely bored out of my mind. It was too effin' hot to do anything outside, I was broke, and there was nothing on TV or the DVR. The house was clean (shocking) and I had already reached the end of the internet.

Then, I had an idea. "Hey! Listen to some podcasts!"

Some how, podcasting had always alluded me. So I went to Alden's site and started subscribing to the podcasts listed in the side bar. The Daily Purge. Wanda Wisdom. Fox and the City. All good stuff.

Then I listened to Okay So Radio.

My first introduction to Matt Blender was this episode. Matt was preparing to run the Chicago Marathon and had asked his family to donate to the charity he was raising money for. One of his relatives wrote him a nasty, homophobic letter back telling him why he wouldn't support his fundraising.

That podcast kind of broke my heart a little. You could hear the anger and disappointment in Matt's voice. You could also hear his determination to rise above it and press on with the marathon and raising money. I've been listening Okay So Radio ever since.

Well, Matt's at it again this year. Once again, he'll be running the Chicago Marathon via the National AIDS Marathon Training Program, which means he's raising money to participate.

Here's where you come in, gentle readers.

If you can, please sponsor Matt. The money goes to a great cause, which should be rewarding enough, however this time you can also get something in return.

If you donate a minimum of $40 by July 15, you can receive a limited edition postcard set of sketches drawn by none other than Alden/Secret Simon.

If you've never seem Alden's artwork, you can check some out here. Alden's an amazing artist and is creating this set just for Matt's run.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Make a donation of at least $40 or more to Matt's marathon donation page.
  2. Send an email with your name, the amount you donated and your shipping address (so that they know you want a set) to okaysoradio@gmail.com.
  3. A few weeks after July 15, you should get your very own set of hand signed, number postcards.

Easy peasy! Any amount helps. I know both Matt and Alden would really appreciate it, as would I.
