The Writing On The Wall

A celebratory balloon. Sorta.
"I've been thinking about moving."
This is a conversation Thomas and I have been having for a while now. Now that his dissertation is THIS CLOSE to being done, he's been looking for work at various universities. As for me, I just have wanderlust.
The desert has been good to me, but it's never felt like home. I'm not sure any place will, but I can't see myself here for the rest of my life.
My Big Fat Debt® is almost paid off and I will owe no one anything after that, so the idea of saving money over next year and looking around for a new city to live, seems like a good prospect.
So, today at lunch with Thomas, I started my usual thinking out loud, "I've been thinking about moving," again.
"Wanna move to Denver?"
He was offered a position there. Being so close to the beginning of the new term, that means he is moving very soon. Too soon.
I've been saying goodbye to too many people this year. Moving seem in the cards.
But where? I'm open to suggestions.

You can always look at www.findyourspot.com and see what happens on that. It's a nifty way to narrow things down a bit.
I hear Wisconsin's a great place - especially Madison. You should look into that.
And, for the record, I don't live there, but I'd like to - once I get my own crap taken care of.

Uh...Chicago, please! I even have a spare room that you can have for a while. But, Milwaukee, Madison and Minneapolis are all pretty cool, too!
Go (Mid)West, Young Man!

I believe you should move some place that challenges you a little but isn't entirely alien, like say for instance... Melbourne! Great little city, not too busy, still affordable, lots of hot Aussie boys for you to enjoy and me to have a beer with on weekends! Plus you get to discover an exciting new country!
Just a thought!

um, not Alder, MT.
Abz is crazy about Boise, ID... me, not so much, but we are heading up there in a year or so.

Honestly, I would say St. Louis, but I don't think I'd recommend it as a destination for our tribe. And the weather sucks ass.
We do have Red Robins, so there is that in our favor, at least.

There are only two places to live: NYC or SF. Make your choice. And I hope for your sake it is SF. Denver is a total abomination. Trust me as as someone who spent 21 years there.

The quickest way to plunge yourself right back INTO debt is to move to NYC. As much as I love the place... Ugh.
I'm a fan of Chicago. I also love Boston, which might be the next homestead for me and the hubby.
Wherever you go... pick someplace that has four seasons? :P

Well, there's always Dallas. :) The job market is good here and so is the housing market as well. Plus.......well there's me.

MOVE? You mean back to the cocoon, right?? :)
I don't think you would enjoy Denver but you WOULD see a lot of Arizonians and especially Prescottonians who work in the real estate/construction field and went there for a better chance at $$.
I'm with Chicago as well. One, you know a cool chick. Two, I know several cool chicks and it IS on my list to come visit - more peeps to see! Three, gotta be good creative jobs?? Good arts, good food - but BRRRRRRRR - invest in good moisturizer (say Burt's Bees??)

Austin!
Unless, of course, that's not a cool enough climate. But I have no doubts that you would love the city!
I've never been to Chicago but for once in my life I want to experience a real Winter. Not a Minnesotan or North Dakotan winter, though. That's too real.
