What I've Been Up To

I've been baking a lot lately. Mostly cookies, which I take to work and feed to my coworkers. I've also been baking bread. My friend Sara has been singing the praises of this book for quite a while so I decided to give it a try.

I'm still amazed how easy it is. And the results? Amazeballs!

I made that! Crazy, right?

Tap, Tap, Tap. Is This Thing Still On?

Just peaking in for a quick update. I'm still not sure what I want to do with this space. Facebook has somewhat taken over the "keeping in touch with my friends" aspect that this blog used to fulfill. All the backend stuff I need to do seems saw daunting when I start to think about it and I have some other projects I need to focus on first.

But, hey... at least I got my template back online. That's something, right?

So here's what's been going on since we last spoke.

First, an update on Heather. Heather is doing great. She's gone through two rounds of chemotherapy and is now in the middle of her radiation treatment. Her hair is growing back after it fell out during the first round of chemo. She's been sporting a cute little faux hawk lately. Oh, did I mention she completed a triathlon a few months ago. Heather is, in short, completely awesome and inspiring. Any time I start to complain about something I remember that my friend Heather, who is battling cancer, was in A MOTHER FUCKING TRIATHLON!

By the way, here are photos from last year's Komen Walk for the Cure.

Game Night Guys is going really well. We have a lot of fun doing it. Doing this podcast has been a very interesting experience for me. In many ways, I struggle a lot with my inner perfectionist/control freak and have had to learn to let a lot of things go in the interest of the show. Not always easy. But I think after some initial struggles, Mike & I have reached a comfortable place with each other and doing this podcast.

I'm still doing some traveling here and there. I've been to Chicago a couple times to see my beloved Gayle, saw the amazing Jonatha Brooke in Colorado for my birthday, visited Daniel for a fun-filled weekend in San Diego, and last month, I visited my mom in Oklahoma.

Oh, I'm moving in a couple weeks. I found a bigger apartment back in my 'hood in South Scottsdale. I am so excited to have a full-sized (and brand-new) kitchen again. Prepare yourself for lots of photos of my cooking adventures.

Just like everyone else.

Heather

Meet Heather. Heather is my friend and co-worker. A few weeks ago, Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 29.

Two weeks ago, Heather had a Bilateral Mastectomy to have 99% of her breast tissue removed.

Both boobs, gone... before 30. Sucks, right?

Needless to say, it's been an emotional few weeks in the office. Heather is well-respected and quiet beloved. What's truly remarkable is her attitude and spirit. She has remained the same positive, funny, goal-driven Heather she always is since her diagnosis. She is, quite simply, amazing.

She is her own superhero.

Here's the part where you can be a superhero too.

On October 10, I and my co-workers will be participating in the Komen Walk for a Cure. If you are able, please consider sponsoring me and pledging your support for this much needed research as well as education and health services.

If you would like to sponsor me, you may make a donation here.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it and I know Heather does too.

Game Night Guys

Here's one of those irons in the proverbial fire...

Mike Lawson and I have decided to do dip our toes into the podcasting world. Our podcast is called Game Night Guys.

Here's our official spiel:

Each episode Mike and Brian take on the challenge of learning and playing a new party game. They tackle everything from classic board and traditional card games to games played online or with a pencil and paper. Breaking many rules along the way, these friends take a light-hearted approach to competition where laughter is always the object of game.

It's been a fun project and we are learning a lot. Like, we say "um," a lot and always remember to check if the recorder is recording before talking for an hour.

Very, very important that last one.

If you'd like to check it out, you can listen on our website gamenightguys.com or subscribe in iTunes.

As we say... it's your move.

PS - WTF happened to my website when I wasn't looking. UGH!

My blog has been collecting a lot of spam lately. The CMS is out-dated and I've been too lazy to move it to something more reliable like Wordpress. So for now, the content has been taken down while I figure out what I want to do.

I have a couple of irons in the proverbial fire that I'm working on and will post updates here when they happen. In the meantime, enjoy the most awesome YouTube video in the history of the internet.
