FoMo!
Check it out. I am the homo who puts the MoFo in FoMo. Totally.

As part of being the Arizona Roller Derby November Fan of the Month, I got this commemorative poster signed by the players.* What's special about this is not only was this bout the debut of the Brawlarinas, but also because they also beat the three-time undefeated champions, Bruisers. It was a very, very good game.
It turns out I was named FoMo because of this blog. This is what was written in the program.
Look around you, folks. Do you notice a man? Sorry, more specifically a man with his own website where he writes witty blogs about his life? Crap. Let me try this again.
Look around you, folks. Do you notice a man with his own website called cheapblueguitar.com where he writes witty blogs about his life and love for AZRD?
Well, then you are fortunate enough to have noticed Brian Gregory, November's Fan of the Month! But how did he reach such a lofty position? Here's Brian in his own words:
A couple years ago, at a First Friday, I walked out of a gallery and found a table of ladies selling baked goods. These were no ordinary ladies though. They were the women of the Arizona Roller Derby. I asked what roller derby was and they enthusiastically told me everything about the sport. Then I asked if they ever get hurt and I've never seen anyone so excited to show me their scars. Thus began my love of roller derby.
Thanks for keeping the location of those scars between you and the ladies, Brian.
Um...witty? Really? You think so?
Any who...thank you Arizona Roller Derby for choosing me as Fan of the Month. You ladies (and gentlemen) rock and kick ass.
Photos! I posted some photos in Flickr.
*Signed by everyone except one Mink Stole, who scares the shit out of Kacy. Mink won't accept my MySpace friends request either. To quote her namesake, "There are only two kinds of people in the world: my kind of people and assholes." I guess that makes me an asshole. W00t! (Love ya Mink!)

"I'd Like To Thank the Academy..."
Monday I recieved an email from the Arizona Roller Derby telling me I had been chosen as November's Fan of the Month.
Holy crap!
How cool is that? Now I feel guilty for missing the last two bouts. (Sorry ladies!)
The bummer part is two of my roller derby cohorts can't be there. Adam's out of town and Kacy has plans with her sister. They will miss out on my very touching acceptance speech. I will try to keep the tears to a miniumum but can not make any promises about not making any political statements.
But my gown...it will be stunning. Expect to see knock-offs at the mall the following week.
Actually, I have no idea what being a FoMo means other than free admission to the bout and my name in the program, but I'm pretty excited nonetheless. Roller derby kicks ass and you should find the closest league, crack open a Pabst Blue Ribbon and check it out.
Hellz yeah!

My .52 Minute of Fame
There were tons of new people at roller derby on Saturday. The vibe was a little weird at the beginning. Could be since all the newbies didn't quite know what to make of it. Also, the band packed up and left when the game started. (What the H?)
There is a slideshow today on azcentral.com from Saturday’s bout. In one of the pictures you can see Kacy's head and my body. (That would be an odd looking FrankenBrian.)

Fanatic
Disclaimer: This is not a well articulated post, but then again...are any of them?
I'm going on record now. I fucking love Roller Derby. I mean FUCKING LOVE IT so much that I'll end this sentence in many reinforcing exclamation points to illustrate how much I fucking love it!!!!!!! Like OMFGBBQ it rawks!
I love it so much, I'm actually going to make it its own category. THAT'S a fan baby.
Last night's bout was awesome. A great game. I think I finally understand Jennifer's unnatural obsession with OU football. I get it now Jenn! I was yelling and cheering my head off so much that my voice is a little hoarse today. I think I even yelled "Woot! Woot!" at some point.
I've always leaned towards the Surly Gurlies for my favorite team, and after last night there is no doubt I am a fan of those lovely, tough pirate ladies. Those girls fought a hard game last night and even though they didn't win, they did an outstanding job.
We sat next to the boyfriend of one of the jammers for the Gurlies, Hippy's Revenge. He was really nice explaining the game to the newbies and sharing some insights about the inner workings of the team. Nicest guy with a blue mohawk ever.
Next month's bout is going to be outside which I think will be so good! Last time the bout was outside it was a wee bit cold but it's getting warmer and warmer every day here, so and outdoor game will be nice before we are all forced to bathe in SPF 90 and hibernate indoors.
PS - Check out the hott pics at the Arizona Roller Derby Pool.

Brrrr
Last night was Roller Derby. Apparently because of some code and inspection problem with the city they were ejected from their usual indoor location by da man. Of course I didn't know that until I got there but I was informed by the lovely and bewitching Sick Girl (I totally dig her bangs.) of the new location.
Now when she told me where it was gonna be, I was all, "Oh yeah, I know where that is." Turns out I didn't and let me tell you something: Union Hills and 40th Street is like a universe away from The Cocoon™ I call home. DAMN far away.
So I shlepped my ass across town. The new location was an outdoor venue, which was kind of fun. It had that high school team spirit kind of feel. Even though it's February and been in the 80s here, I didn't think it would be that cold. Oh...but I was wrong. It was chilly for sure. I was jealous of some people I saw sipping from a flask. They know how to stay warm.
I didn't have a camera with me except my camera-phone so no blurry over Photoshopped pics for you, but I did snap (and screw with) this one of my losing raffle ticket.
Sigh. No Ladmo Bag for Brian.
NEWS FLASH: This just in. Ouiser's getting hitched! Apparently she had the winning ticket! Go wish her congratulations or something.

Roller Derby Girls
Finally! A sport I can support and get into.Last night I went to the Arizona Roller Derby. Tough hot chicks. Short skirts. Fishnets. Roller Skates. Why can't all sports be this interesting? It was great fun. The chicks are cool and sometimes vicious. Plus there were lots of interesting people to people watch. One thing I found is it's pretty frickin' hard taking pictures of the roller girls in motion. Or standing still for that matter. Maybe it's the photographer. Nah. I think I'll just blame it on the camera. Too bad PhotoShop doesn't have a "fuck up fixer" tool.I'm still a little confused about how the ladies score, but I have one month until the next game to figure it out so I can truly be a fan.But which team should I support. I bought buttons for both teams playing last night and just clapped and cheered whenever other people did. But I feel to be a trye sports fanatic, I should have a favorite team. One I support. There are four here. And with player names like Sis Boom Barbie, Bea Naughty, Paige Burner, Jenna Jammerson (number 38DD!), Micky Dismantle and Mal Vicious, how's a fella to choose?(Seriously, these are totally drag queen names! Am I right?)Also, it seems there is a tournament in Tucson at the end of February. Twenty leagues from around the country will be playing. I may just have to drag a certain archaeologist to go with me.
